Adoptions and Safe Families Act
Each student will choose a major social welfare policy to analyze. Generally included are TANF, the
Adoptions and Safe Families Act, the Older Americans Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Medicare,
Medicaid, Foster Care, Family Preservation, or the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009
(Homelessness), etc. Additionally, this paper must address and discuss the values relevant to the topic
and the Saint Leo value that best informs an understanding of the analysis. The paper must be between
seven and ten pages, typed, and double-spaced. Correct spelling, grammar, and sentence structure is
imperative. References must be cited correctly with a reference list included at the end of the paper. The
Research Paper must follow the American Psychological Association (APA) format. Students will be
graded on the thoroughness of content area, correct spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and correct use
of APA.
The Research Paper is due no later than Sunday 11:59 PM EST/EDT of Module 7.
Technology Intensive Requirement
Each student will pick a particular piece of proposed legislation that is currently under consideration in the
Florida Legislature that is connected with the policy that is being analyzed for the Research Paper.
Students will locate a particular legislative issue and follow it on the Internet throughout the course of the
semester. It is required that there will be a section at the end of the Research Paper in which the
legislation and its relevance to the policy analyzed is discussed. Included in this section will be
identification of the legislator who is sponsoring the proposed legislation, the committee responsible for
examining it, who serves on the committee, the staff member who works for the legislator sponsoring the
proposed legislation, and any other information that the student feels is pertinent.
